Movement Efficiency for the Developing Athlete
Price: $ 25.95
I have written this book in response to the many practitioners who have attended my course on ‘The Quest for Physical Literacy’. While the one-day course appeared to stimulate all the delegates to different practice in their training prescription they always wanted a little more in terms of basic knowledge on the subject. I have tried to set out the context that coaches and teachers should base their decision-making on.
This book is written for all practitioners involved in the pathway from physical well-being through to elite sports performance. The latter cannot be optimised without world’s best practice existing in the former so many of the remarks in the book are appropriate for those coaches working in the early stages of the athlete’s journey. It is these coaches, those who volunteer to look after the developing athlete, who need the greatest amount of support. So much of their education centres on the technical and tactical elements of training and, hopefully, this book may give them some additional tools to work with.
The format of this book is one where I have added my own experiences as a teacher and coach to some known research in various components of the story. In addition, I have taken advantage of some of the brilliant minds I have been associated with over the last five decades of being involved in the practical elements of teaching and coaching. The information gleaned from my colleagues and my own experiences gives me a degree of confidence that the content will make a few teachers, coaches and parents think carefully about the physical journey their charges are on.
I have not written this as a textbook, more as a conversation between practitioners. I don’t pretend to be an author of any note, but I am motivated to assemble these thoughts as a supporter of the teaching and coaching generations yet to come. Over the last decade I have been honoured to meet with and share with a large group of teachers, coaches and administrators worldwide (through workshops, lectures and courses) who form the backbone of support to all those young people who are committed to the journey from ‘well-being through to ‘high performance sport’.
I have tried to summarise the information in some sections into a list of what the coach might need in their ‘toolbox’. A ‘toolbox’ that might act as (a) a framework or checklist (b) guidance on the order of things as the training program is prescribed to the athlete. Only a small number of sports are illustrated but I trust that coaches from those sports not mentioned are creative enough to utilise some of the principles.

Final Words - This Isn't a Textbook Part Two
Price: $ 13.50
This book takes over from where the first "This Isn't a Textbook" finished off in 2014. It continues reflecting on matters to do with Coaching, Coach Education and Development, Physical Literacy, Administration and a host of other topics.
Written in the original guickfire style, the book offers an insight into the experiences of the author as he navigated life alongside his chosen career of coaching. There are many elements written for those making their own similar journey and act as another piece of 'sharing' with those on the same pathway.
